There is nothing quite like old friends. It’s amazing how you can run into or plan to meet up with old friends that you haven’t seen in years and it’s like no time has passed. I had two such experiences today. The first was on my way to the other. I got on the subway after work with another co-worker and I ran into an old friend from College. He and I used to live next door to each other back in the day…freshman year to be exact. We would run into each other every now and then when we were in school but never really made an effort to hang out or anything. So here I am, riding on the subway with him. We’re talking as if we’re old chums. It was great…and he was…well cute as hell. I don’t remember him being so damn cute. He’s definitely grown out his hair a bit and, I don’t know, gained a bit of weight? He was always kind of a skinny thing. So it turns out he works a block away from me. We are planning to do lunch. He made sure I still had his email address…check!
So the next thing is dinner with the girls. I have a wonderful group of girls that I regularly have dinner with. We talk about sex, love, sex, drinking, apartments and sex. So anyway, one of the girls ran into our old friend Patricia on the street. Apparently she just moved to New York and knew pretty much no one. She’s been crashing on her sisters couch and is about to move to a place of her own in April. So of course she was invited to dinner. And she is pretty much just like I remember her. Patricia was always the coolest fucking girl I knew and I always felt as if we had a special bond. We dated most of the same boys at camp, we both liked show tunes but were punk rockers at heart and we both at least try to be as artsy fartsy as we possibly can. And the big thing we have in common? Girls. We both like to fuck girls…okay she likes to fuck girls, I like to think about it…eventually, I’ll have the balls to do it more than that one time. She also fucks boys, but who doesn’t these days? Anyway she’s as cool as I remember her and I’m so excited to have another girl friend in my life.
After dinner we headed over to smoochies where the girl at the counter gave me extra toppings and a dazzling smile. Was she just straight and friendly or was she actually hitting on me? She didn't give my other friends extra toppings? I forget that we can't both be the girl in this situation...someone has to make a move..."we are 10 million women waiting for someone to ask us to dance"-Julie Loyd...I was too tired for it to be me.
So it was a whirlwind day of old friends and if gives me hope that I’ve kept all these people in my life for a good reason….they will all help me move in a few weeks :)
